Ordinary Powers of Attorney (OPA)

What are they?

They are the permissions you give to people you chose to act legally for you. They are usually in a specific time frame for specific purposes. A contract may need signing while you are on holiday or perhaps some money may need to be transferred.

What can your attorney do?

Your attorney can do anything that you are legally allowed to do. Conditions setting out how and what the attorney can do for you are usually attached so there is no confusion as to the extent of the attorney’s authority. This is an obvious safeguard for both you and your attorney.
